In order for fighters to fight effectively, outside a droid brain, you need pilots.
It was the first wave of fighters that I knew that I wouldn't be eating lunch with a lot of them anymore. My squadron would be escorting the gunships once past the blockade so we go the easy job. Once out of the ship we got into our formations and got out s-foils in attack position. I watched as the main doors to the hangar opened up and we were given the green light to take off. I could feel the ship shutter as we exited hyperspace. We had to clear the way for the gunships to get through to the surface so they could evac the troops on the ground. I started to do my preflight checks before we exited hyperspace. I climbed into the cockpit of my ARC-170 as my back gunner and copilot were already in. "Victor Echo One Two, come in, repeat Victor Echo One Two" I hear over the ships speaker system.
